On May 25, the application of the new European regulations regarding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) became official. This regulation, which is directly applicable throughout the European Union, aims to protect the processing of personal data of Internet users and their free movement.

How does the new data protection law affect my online store?

To solve all the doubts, we gave a workshop where we resolved what are the critical points of this new regulation and why it is crucial for any business or online platform to take care of the communication directed to its users. From now on, brands must:

  • Have explicit permission from your users to send them electronic communications.
  • They cannot send automatic emails to recover abandoned carts or to inform about offers and discounts, unless the buyer has given his explicit consent to receive this type of emails.
  • To inform about what has been implemented to comply with the RGPD and who will be the Data Protection Officer in charge of managing your personal data.
  • Nor may they send SMS without the user’s express consent.
  • Data controllers may not transfer files containing personal data to third parties without having obtained the prior, specific and unequivocal consent of the owners of such data.
  • It is mandatory to provide customers with their personal data if they request it.
  • Have a concise, transparent, intelligible and simple privacy policy so that anyone can understand it.

These are just some of the requirements of the new legislation. If you want to know all the guidelines, do not miss the video of the workshop that we share at the beginning of the article.
